Your adventure begins in the vibrant heart of Rome, at the meeting point in Piazza Mattei, located in the Jewish Ghetto area, one of the city’s most lively and charming neighborhoods. Easily accessible by public transport, this central location sets the stage for your 90-minute golf cart tour of the Eternal City. While entrance to monuments isn’t included, this tour is a fantastic way to explore Rome’s most iconic landmarks in a short amount of time. We’ve crafted two unique itineraries that offer different perspectives of the city, and your driver will guide you, offering insightful commentary along the way, while also recommending the best route based on what you’ve already seen and the current traffic conditions.
And don’t forget that this tour is private, ensuring a personalized, unique, and unforgettable experience just for you and your group.
Drive Across Imperial Rome Highlights
The first of our two itineraries takes you deep into the heart of Ancient Rome, retracing the steps of gladiators and emperors. Your journey begins at the Colosseum, Rome’s most famous monument, where you’ll hear gripping tales of gladiator battles and public spectacles that once captivated the masses. Built in 80 AD by Emperor Titus, the Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of its time, hosting everything from brutal gladiatorial fights to wild animal hunts, embodying the grandeur of Roman entertainment.
Next, head to the Circus Maximus, the colossal chariot-racing stadium that could hold over 150,000 spectators. As the birthplace of Roman sports, it was the site of thrilling chariot races that were a major part of Roman culture, serving as both a form of entertainment and a political tool. From there, you’ll journey to Palatine Hill, the legendary founding site of Rome. According to Roman myth, Romulus and Remus were said to have been raised by a she-wolf here, and the hill became home to the grand imperial palaces, offering panoramic views of the city.
Mouth of Truth and the history of Rome
As you continue, your driver will explain the historical significance of each site, from the Mouth of Truth—a stone mask where ancient Romans would test the honesty of their words—to the Forum Boarium, home to some of the city’s oldest standing buildings, including the Temple of Portunus. The final stop on this route takes you past the Theatre of Marcellus, an ancient open-air theatre, whose ruins still whisper stories of Roman culture and entertainment. Throughout the tour, your driver will bring the history of Ancient Rome to life, making the ruins of this extraordinary civilization feel real and personal before returning to your original meeting point or your preferred drop off place.
Baroque and Renaissance Rome
Alternatively, if you’re drawn to the Baroque and Renaissance beauty of Rome, our second itinerary is perfect for you. Your tour begins at Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most celebrated squares. Originally the site of the Stadium of Domitian, where ancient Romans once watched athletic games, today Piazza Navona is a stunning example of Baroque design. At its center stands Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers, an incredible masterpiece that represents the four major rivers of the world as they were known in the 17th century. Bernini’s sculpture is both dramatic and graceful, making it one of the most iconic fountains in the city.
From there, make your way to the Pantheon, an extraordinary architectural marvel. Originally built as a temple to all Roman gods by Emperor Hadrian around 125 AD, the Pantheon has been in continuous use throughout its history. It now serves as a church but remains a masterpiece of engineering, with its massive, unreinforced concrete dome that was the largest of its kind in the world for over 1,300 years. Inside, you’ll marvel at the oculus—an open hole at the top of the dome that allows light to flood in—symbolizing the connection between Earth and the heavens.
Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain
Next, visit the famous Spanish Steps, which climb from Piazza di Spagna to the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. The steps are not just a place to rest, but a hub of social activity and the perfect spot to people-watch, while also leading you to Rome’s luxury shopping district, making it a favorite stop for both fashion lovers and history buffs.
Your tour continues to the Trevi Fountain, the largest and most famous Baroque fountain in the city. Completed in 1762 by Nicola Salvi, the Trevi Fountain is renowned for its grand scale and the dramatic figures of Neptune and his chariot. Don’t forget to toss a coin into the fountain, ensuring that your future in Rome will be just as magical as your visit today.
Finally, wrap up your tour at Piazza Venezia, an iconic square at the heart of Rome, where you’ll see the grand Vittoriano monument, also known as the Altare della Patria. This monumental structure was built in the late 19th century to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy. From here, you’ll gain insight into Italy’s modern history, as Piazza Venezia was a key location in the events surrounding the unification of the country. Along the way, your driver will enrich your experience with captivating stories and insights about these stunning landmarks, making this tour an unforgettable journey through the beauty and history of Baroque and Renaissance Rome.
Drop-off in Rome City Center
At the end of your tour, you’ll be dropped off wherever you prefer in central Rome. Whether it’s at a key spot to continue exploring, your hotel, or any other destination, you’ll be left with unforgettable memories of the Eternal City. With a deeper understanding of Rome’s history and culture, your 90-minute journey will feel like a true adventure through time.
