Cardinal Ippolito d’Este ran for Pope five times, but was never elected. However, there is something he can still put on his resume: he was the owner and commissioner of one of the most lavish palaces and gardens of its time! Pia brought the complex site of Hadrian's Villa to life with her informative and well-paced tour. After a pleasant lunch in Tivoli we continued with a stroll around the gardens of Villa D'Este. There was less time here, but that suited me as Hadrian's Villa was the main point of interest. Great tour that ran smoothly.
