Depart from Rome

Your magical day of traversing through the rolling hills of central Italy begins in Rome’s centrally located Piazza del Popolo. From here you’ll meet your friendly guide and enthusiastic group of fellow travelers. After hopping into your air-conditioned coach, sit back, relax, and enjoy the view as you’re whisked away to the beautiful Italian countryside!

The Dying City

Your first stop of the day is the ancient, hilltop village of Civita di Bagnoregio. Perched dramatically above the breathtaking Valley of the Badlands, this enchanting town offers not only remarkable views but also a fascinating glimpse into Italy’s rich history. Known as “The Dying City” due to its crumbling cliffs of volcanic rock, Civita di Bagnoregio has battled erosion for centuries, making it a true testament to resilience and beauty.

Follow your guide across the famous pedestrian bridge that connects Civita to the rest of the world—a striking entryway that feels like stepping back in time. Spend the next two hours exploring the village’s narrow cobblestone alleys, ancient stone houses, and charming piazzas.

As you wander through this historic wonderland, your expert guide will share captivating stories of its origins dating back to the Etruscans over 2,500 years ago. Discover how Civita was once a thriving center of commerce and culture, before its gradual isolation due to natural erosion. Despite its challenges, Civita di Bagnoregio has remained an inspiring symbol of endurance and has earned a place as one of Italy’s most treasured and unique destinations.

Lunch at a Tuscan Vineyard

After the visit, don’t miss the chance to capture a photo of this stunning hilltop village, connected to the main road only by its iconic bridge—a picture-perfect moment that’s sure to stand out among your vacation memories! At this point of your day, we’re sure you’ve worked up an appetite by now. After hopping back in your van, you’ll be driven to a picturesque vineyard and farmhouse, nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany. Sit down for a decadent, 3-course meal in a pristine setting where you’ll be served an array of regional delicacies. Depending on the season, savor flavorful panzanella, salami, capocollo, wild boar sausage, and delicious Tuscan pecorino cheese! All accompanied by a traditional, must-have pasta dish with seasonal toppings.

Wine Tasting

Of course, your exquisite meal will be accompanied by an unforgettable wine tasting. As you enjoy typical Tuscan cuisine, you’ll also sample five of the vineyard’s delectable wine varieties.

Among these, you’ll savor a world-renowned, flavorful red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino—considered one of Italy’s finest wines. Brunello owes its fame to the Sangiovese grape, which thrives in the unique terroir of Montalcino, where the climate, altitude, and soil composition work in perfect harmony. Known for its exceptional aging potential, Brunello delivers a rich and complex profile. Look for notes of dark cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, and hints of leather and tobacco, rounded out by velvety tannins and a long, elegant finish.

Tuscany and neighboring Umbria are often regarded as the wine capitals of Italy due to their perfect winemaking conditions. The rolling hills, abundant sunshine, and mineral-rich soils create an ideal environment for producing world-class wines. From Tuscany’s Chianti and Brunello to Umbria’s Sagrantino and Orvieto, these regions have shaped Italy’s reputation as one of the greatest wine-producing countries in the world.

This is more than a meal; it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the essence of Italy’s winemaking heritage.

The Ancient Town of Orvieto

Rivaling the extraordinary views of Tuscany, next you’ll be driven through Umbria’s equally captivating landscape. Sat atop a towering rock cliff overlooking the rolling hills of Umbria, your guide will lead you to the ancient town of Orvieto. With its commanding position, the town has been a strategic and cultural hub for centuries.

Your expert guide will lead you through Orvieto’s medieval streets, sharing stories of its rich past. First settled by the Etruscans over 2,500 years ago, Orvieto became a vital center of Etruscan civilization, with remnants of its underground tunnels and caves still visible today. In the Middle Ages, it flourished as a religious and political stronghold, even serving as a refuge for popes during times of turmoil in Rome.

One of the highlights of your visit will undoubtedly be the magnificent Duomo di Orvieto, masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Famous for its intricate façade adorned with golden mosaics and detailed carvings, the cathedral is home to Luca Signorelli’s breathtaking frescoes in the Chapel of San Brizio, that inspired generations of Renaissance artists.

Spend the next couple of hours uncovering the secrets of this timeless town, from its hidden underground wonders to its vibrant piazzas.

Return to Rome

After a memorable day spent exploring the beauty of central Italy, it’s time to give your tired legs a rest. Jump into your comfortable coach once more as you make the scenic drive back to Rome’s city center. Once you’re back in the Eternal City, your driver will conveniently drop you off at your original meeting point, Piazza del Popolo.

The tour was great for where it went for the stops. The lunch was very disappointing, the worst meal we had in Italy. Our tour guide was Semih. He was terrible. He walked so fast some of the older ones in the group could not keep up. He slept on the bus and provided very little information. The Orvieto and Bagnoregio stops were incredible.

Very disappointed, do not recommend

While our guide was lovely and the bus driver was great as well, the tour was exceptionally disappointing. It felt highly commercialized & not authentic! Our stops at Orvieto & the 'Dying City' were really beautiful, but in between they brought us to this "market" where you were forced to walk through this labyrinth of stalls selling ridiculously marked up products, while a "non-Italian" woman spoke through a microphone like an auctioneer rambling on about 'deals & discounts'. You couldn't exit the market without walking through the cash line ups. We then proceeded to our "tuscan farm & vineyard" for an "authentic Tuscan lunch & wine tasting" -- we passed a gorgeous table outside set for maybe 20 people, but then were hurried through a scripted speech about "my sister is making you our homemade spaghetti right now" & then they shuffle us all into a giant cafeteria-like room with multiple huge tour groups (honestly probably 100 people in there), basically dropping food in front of us without explanation, pouring wine 'tastes' so fast & sloppy it would spill & the wine was not good, & no one was pleasant. A table beside us continuously was forgotten & we could see them all getting upset. When we were leaving we were again forced through a 'gift shop' where the products were so obscenely overpriced (imagine 55€ for a tiny pot of honey!). It all felt like a huge gimmick. The only reason the tour is getting 2 stars as I did feel our tour guide tried her best to make the experience positive, & the two scenic towns were very pretty (we enjoyed having free time at both). But we will never again book a large tour group like this again & do not recommend this tour.

Superb experience
