Your hidden gems food and wine tour kicks off in the historic Piazza Santa Maria delle Grazie. Look for your guide near the lovely Parrocchia di Santa Maria delle Grazie al Trionfale, a neo-Romanesque church, who awaits to lead the way to their favorite wine bars and local eateries of the area. This particular neighborhood, between Trionfale and Prati, is an excellent place to get your first glimpses of the lesser-visited Rome, with its mix of bustling markets, quaint cafés, and enchanting parks and piazzas. We won’t linger too long, though, as there’s wine to sip and dishes to sample!
Ignite Your Appetite with Antipasti and Prosecco
From Trionfale, join your small group for a leisurely stroll to the adjacent Prati district.
Given its proximity to the Vatican, it is one of the most frequented by tourists. Despite this, it remains a historic neighborhood of Rome where many locals reside, and, with the right guidance, you can still visit and enjoy authentic and historic places to drink and experience.
You’ll immediately notice its distinct air of sophistication, with elegant architecture and upscale boutique shops dotted along tree-lined avenues—it's the ideal spot to discover fantastic eateries that are lively yet pleasantly uncrowded.
Soon, you'll find yourself in a discreet wine bar, where you will taste some of its antipasti while tasting a bottle from their well-crafted selection. Delve into a mouthwatering array of appetizers, from freshly prepared bruschetta and marinated olives to creamy burrata, all perfectly paired with sparkling Prosecco. Every bite and sip promise to tantalize your taste buds and set the bar high for your tastings to come.
A Wine Lover’s Paradise
Next, step into a welcoming restaurant celebrated for its premier wines and meticulously crafted dishes. Indulge in the deep, rich flavors of Tuscan reds or local white wines, paired with hearty Italian dishes based on seasonal products, like baccalà, supplì, vegetable dishes like zucchine alla scapece or fried peppers, and tune in as your sommelier guide shares alluring stories about each wine.
Unwind at an Authentic Wine Bar
And now, for the grand finale—one of Rome’s trendiest wine bars, known for its exceptional wine selection and impeccable pairings. With your sommelier guide leading the way, you’ll explore the flavors of each glass, discovering what makes Italian wine so special. Dishes change with the season, and are guaranteed not to disappoint—each thoughtfully paired with the perfect wine.
As the sun sets, glasses are refilled, and bottles are emptied, you’ll find your small group has been the perfect company for an evening well spent. Although your tour is wrapping up, the night is far from over. Take your guide's tip and head to a nearby wine bar to keep the festivities alive. Our tour was fantastic! We are not wine experts and Javier made us feel at ease while he shared with us wines from the region. We ended up being the only 2 on the tour this particular night and he customized the experience just for us. Highly recommend this experience! David and Patty
