There are few more awe-inspiring places than the mighty Roman Colosseum. Also nicknamed the Flavian Amphitheater, you'll have skip-the-line access to avoid the crowds of tourists waiting to enter. Your expert guide will set the scene for what it felt like to attend the thrilling events that took place inside the arena, from epic gladiator fights to public executions, held in front of baying crowds of more that 50,000 Romans. 

This tour takes you to the first and second tiers of the Colosseum—areas reserved for seating Rome’s most elite classes during the Colosseum’s gladiator games. As you look around and picture what life must have been like here, your guide will enlighten you with intriguing stories of some of the Colosseum’s most gruesome events.

Guided tour of Palatine Hill

Follow your guide to the historic site where Romulus is said to have founded the city of Rome in 753 BC. Palatine Hill is the best stop to learn about the lifestyle of the rich and famous of ancient Rome. For instance, the Palace of Domitian even had its own amphitheater inside of the property!

Ancient Roman Forum

Explore the ruins that were once at the heart of ancient Roman culture. As the political and social hub of the city, this is where Rome’s most important decisions were made. Trace the footsteps of Julius Caesar and visit popular sites such as the Arch of Titus and Senate House, as your guide tells you about the daily life and seismic events that one happened here.

Capitoline Hill

Also known as Campidoglio, Capitoline Hill is one of the famous seven hills of Rome. In the center of the piazza, you will find Palazzo Senatorio, Rome’s city hall. You’ll also get an unbeatable view of the Roman Forum, can look out across what was once the most powerful city in the ancient world.

Trevi Fountain

You'll continue your walk through the center of Rome, stopping off at the beautiful Trevi Fountain. This 18th-century treasure is the most famous fountain in Rome, and possibly the world. Depicting the Greek god Oceanus, the fountain portrays the changing tides of the ocean. If you toss a coin into the fountain over your left shoulder with your right hand, it's believed that you'll be certain to return to the Eternal City.

Pantheon

Your next stop is the Pantheon—once a Roman temple and now an important Catholic church. Thought to be the best-preserved ancient Roman building in the city, the Pantheon exemplifies classic Greek architecture. You’ll notice how many buildings have been modeled after this classic architecture, such as the US Capitol and the Jefferson Memorial. Your guide will explain the role the Pantheon played in ancient Rome as you explore this grand place of worship.

Piazza Navona

You'll finish your tour off in the beautiful Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most popular squares. The piazza was actually built on top of the Stadium of Domitian, one of ancient Rome’s most popular arenas. In the center of the piazza, you’ll also notice a large Egyptian Obelisk with characters that mention Emperor Domitian. Today, Piazza Navona is a hive of activity with plenty of restaurants and bars, making it the perfect place to end your tour of Rome!
