Elaine, our tourWe took the extended tour of the Colosseum, with lower and upper levels, and the Palatine Hill. It was the best tour we took in Rome. Elaine, our tour guide, was incredible: knowledge, humor, insights, nice loud voice and a great sense of the group! Our family was seven people, three generations, ages 8 to 74. And she met all our needs!! The information was superb, pacing perfect, putting us in the shade when possible (it was 95 degrees) and keeping it lively with stories and asides for the younger set. She became our yardstick for measuring all other guides and no one else was her equal. So glad we booked!!..more

Our tour took us to the floor of the Colosseum and and below then up to the top reaches of the outer walls. We got great details of the Palatine Hill so we could understand the scope and importance of the site. There is much more to Palatine Hill than I thought. Walking the roman forum is taking a step back in time, If you listen carefully you can hear the echos of footsteps from two thousand years ago.
Finding the tour was quick and easy. Carry water in the summer. It can get hoot...more
I thought spending a bit extra and going with a private tour was sooooo worth it. Elaine really brought the Colosseum alive for us.

The guide was cool, laid back and completely noticed what we were interested in and not interested in. She covered all the main history and important dates, but noticed we were more interested in the gladiator fights and behind the scenes gossip and just went in that direction. It was amazing. I wish she didn't have another tour after or else we would have went to drinks. Private tours are great and I recommend asking for a discount as they'll do it if you buy multiple! ..more
