You'll want to fill it up, when you learn about our world famous Colosseum Underground Tour!
This tour will include some light hiking up the hill and walking on uneven terrain.
Restricted Area! Venture into the Colosseum Underground where slaves, gladiators and wild animals were held before fighting to the death on the Arena floor that loomed above them.
Restricted Area! Retrace the last steps of a gladiator as you walk out onto the Arena Floor. Imagine the intense atmosphere of 60,000 roaring spectators surrounding you.
Seen both underground and from the Arena Floor, your guide will show you the reconstructions of mechanisms used to pull deadly wild animals onto the Arena Floor during gladiator battles.
Restricted Area! Enjoy one of the best views of Ancient Rome from the Top Level of the colosseum. Looking down, you’ll realize why it was once nicknamed the “nose-bleeder” section.
This is the biggest triumphal arch in Rome! This 21 meter high arch celebrates Emperor Constantine's victory over Maxentius and the legalization of Christianity in Ancient Rome.
Once home to the Roman Emperors and situated on one of the 7 "founding hills of Rome”, you’ll visit Ancient Rome’s most exclusive neighborhood. The panoramic views of Rome are plentiful from up here!
It's no secret that Romans loved to be entertained, and Emperors were no exception, they just did it with more style. Your guide will take you to Emperor Domitian's own private chariot racing track!
Walk the streets of the political, economical and religious center of Ancient Rome on this Colosseum Tour. A place that was once the pounding heart of the Roman Empire!
The Arch of Titus is home to one of the earliest carved reliefs of the Menorah. During this Ancient Roman tour you'll learn about the Jewish Rebellion against the Romans in 70AD and its consequences.
Your guide will show you the temple where Rome's eternal flame once burned. Hear how the Vestal Virgins, whose privileges were matched with extreme sacrifices, kept this flame burning and why.
Vestal Virgins were well respected in the Roman society and lived privileged lives in comparison to other women. You'll be shown their statues that stand in the garden of the temple.
Buildings that still stand in the Ancient Forum remind us of some of the greatest men that ever lived, like the Temple of Antoninus & Faustina or the Senate House where Julius Caesar had his funeral.
A building where many of the world's most important decisions at the time were made, your guide will tell you about the Senate House. Imagine if these walls could speak!
Once the largest building in the forum, this cathedral is a marvel of Roman architecture. Towering above all other buildings in the area, it is hard to miss!
This Temple was built in honor of Julius Caesar, where legend has it his body was burned. There is a strange feeling at these ruins and your guide will tell you Caesar's story.

What makes the Colosseum Underground Dungeons tour the best tour in Rome? This is not a regular Colosseum tour, this is the most EXCLUSIVE Colosseum tour in Rome! Let us treat you like a VIP as we enter with skip the line tickets included in the price and get behind the scenes access to explore the Colosseum Underground, Arena Floor and Third Level!
The Roman Guy sees it as his mission to reveal some of the last remaining secrets of the Colosseum during this VIP Rome tour. With our professional English-speaking guide, you'll get the opportunity to experience something that very few visitors get to see, going behind the scenes in the Colosseum and retracing the footsteps of gladiators! Guide, tickets, and admissions included. Restricted access to the underground is given to The Roman Guy by the management of the Colosseum, a 2000-year-old building. Albeit a rare occurrence, the Colosseum reserves the right to change our tour start times or, in very rare cases, cancel a tour. Rest assured that if either of these changes affect your tour, you will be contacted immediately by a member of our team.
Your tour begins inside the Colosseum when a padlocked gate is opened for your group. You'll descend underground into the "Hypogeum", commonly known as the Colosseum Underground or Dungeons. This is where Gladiators and wild animals awaited their fate! You are now standing in an area that was unknown to the tens of thousands of screaming spectators above. Your expert guide will explain how you would have felt at this moment if you were a gladiator - It was dark, you were alone, and you knew that you might be taking your last breaths in this world.
You will get to walk directly beneath the stage and get the best view of what went on behind the scenes, including a model "trap door" used to raise animals and gladiators up to the stage!
Next, your guide leads you into the heart of the Colosseum, as you walk under a great archway known as the "Porta Libitina" or "Gate of Death" and out onto the reconstructed Arena Floor, where gladiators once fought for their lives. From this gate, only the dead passed through because this was the direction to the Gladiator district. Once inside the Arena, look around you, and your expert guide will bring the roaring games back to life. The Arena Floor along with the other restricted areas make this one of the best-guided tours in Rome.
But what kind of gladiator were you? Were you condemned to try and survive against savage and hungry animals like lions and tigers? Or were you a "Gladiator in shining armor" battling against other Gladiators? Either way, on the Arena floor you can almost hear the deafening sound of 60,000 spectators screaming your name as they lead you to victory over your opponent!
Cameras ready as this is the best place in the Colosseum for a photo opportunity. There will be plenty of time to take photos of you acting victorious on the arena floor, as members of the general public look at your group wondering "How did they get there?" Out of the three areas, The Roman Guy thinks this is the best part of the tour!
After all the action, you'll visit the Third Level. This is another restricted area, where we will be the only visitors, and from here you'll see one of the best views both down into the Colosseum and out onto the Roman Forum.
All of our guides are experts in archeology and history and are extremely passionate about sites like the Colosseum. We don't want to give away all the secrets, but you will learn that the "Colosseum" is just a nickname, why women didn't sit with men and that there was a very "modern" device to make sure that everyone was protected from the sun!
This Colosseum Dungeons tour also includes a guided stroll of the Ancient City (Roman Forum and Palatine Hill). Your Colosseum tour tickets also include skip the line admission to these two areas.
These two Roman archeological sites are home to amazing sites such as the Temple of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus, the Roman Senate House and much more. Our expert guide will rebuild these structures in your imagination through history and legends from the ancient world and with the help of a visual display book that will show you what the ruins looked like in all their glory.
By the end of the tour your guide will have created an excellent picture of what life was like during the 1st - 4th century A.D. as well as create a timeline of events through Roman history. You can leave knowing you have really conquered Ancient Rome and the Colosseum!

They reserve the right to change our start time or even in very rare cases cancel a tour for any reason including maintenance. We would inform you a few weeks before your tour if there are any changes. *** In the case of heavy rainfall the Colosseum management may close access to"restricted areas" at the last minute for reasons of safety. In such circumstances, we will do our best to make other arrangements for you to see the restricted areas, but cannot guarantee availability on a substitute date. The Roman Guy runs guided tours rain or shine. If your group is subject to closures by the Colosseum and do not get access to the restricted areas due to bad weather, we will still continue with a 3.5hour tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill, excluding the restricted areas. We will then refund you a proportion of the tour cost ($20). The Roman Guy is learning how to control the weather but has yet to perfect it.

On the tour we were taken to the very top of the Colosseum 4th level not for the faint hearted. But we'll worth climbing all those stairs. Giuseppe was a great guide for the Pallatine Hill and the Forum. We got lucky that our tour only jad 6 of us on it. Thank you for a great tour..more

Didn't realize that inside the Colosseum for the underground part of the tour you are required to switch to another tour guide supplied by the Colosseum. But she was great as well so didn't feel like any money was lost. Tons of history and a long tour by the time you make it to the Forum but I think it's the best way to see it all!
Our tour last month "Colosseum Underground Tour with Roman Forum and Palatine Hill" was an incredible experience. As stated on The Roman Guy's websiteOur tour last month "Colosseum Underground Tour with Roman Forum and Palatine Hill" was an incredible experience. As stated on The Roman Guy's website, we skipped the ticket line and explored the Colosseum Underground, Arena Floor and Third Level! In addition, we received an in-depth tour of the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. The admission price for all of these sites was included in our ticket charge - no surprise fees! Julia (our guide) was amazing! A proud city of Rome resident, Julia was on-time at the specified meeting location, very knowledgeable, fun, responsible, and spoke fluent English. The tour participants were outfitted with an earphone receiver. This allowed Julia to communicate with us from her transmitter. We saw other tours where the guide had to shout/speak loudly for the participants to hear. A lengthy tour (about three hours) immersed us in the history of Rome. This outstanding tour was an experience we will never forget!!..more

We came away with knowledge of Ancient Rome as it moved from a republic to an empire and an understanding of how the games held at the Colosseum were used as part of the political strategy of the day. The Colosseum tour included the lower section which was worthwhile. We have booked tours managed by other tour companies and would rate this one as one of the best...more
