If you’re looking an afternoon Vatican tour, we offer a skip the line tour that offers both a morning and afternoon start time. It would take approximately 12 years to see every item in the the Vatican Museums, and we know you don’t have that much time to spend. With our professional Vatican guide, visit the highlights of the Vatican (and some hidden gems) in approximately 3 hours. If you’d rather wake up early, our Privileged Entrance Vatican Tour and Express Vatican Tour both let you enter a full hour before the general public and experience the Sistine Chapel when it is practically empty.
Led by your expert guide, visit many of the best things to see inside the Vatican Museums that include the following.
Raphael is the epitome of a Renaissance artist. In the period of European civilization immediately following the Middle Ages, a great period of revival in art, literature and thought occurred. Raphael encompassed the ideals of a Renaissance man and designed and frescoed multiple rooms connected to the Vatican Museums. Among other masterpieces, see one of Raphael’s most famous works of art, The School of Athens
Michelangelo dedicated 10 years of his life to the Sistine Chapel. Only when you are inside, is it clear why it is one of the most celebrated works of art in Western civilization. Now restored, every detail and color of the Sistine Chapel is striking to behold. Since the Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, visitors are not permitted to speak inside. Before you enter, your professional Vatican guide will explain the significance of the chapel’s artwork and provide you with a map/handout for reference once you are inside.
Important! If you choose to stay in the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, you are welcome to leave the tour and skip St. Mark’s Basilica. However, if you do this, you cannot use the special entrance and skip the lines at St. Mark’s Basilica. If you decide to leave the tour, return your headset to your tour guide. Please note, if you do not return them, you will be charged 50€ per headset.
The grand centerpiece of the Vatican is St. Peter’s Basilica. The massive church is filled with artwork from some of the most celebrated artists in history. Enter through a special door and skip the lines to get inside the most opulent church in the world. Once inside, admire masterpieces that include the La Pieta, La Baldacchino, La Pieta, the statue of St. Peter and much more.
Important: Remember that you cannot return to the Vatican Museums from St. Peter’s Basilica. If you want more time inside the museums, forgo the Basilica. Inform your guide at the beginning of the tour. Also, if you would like to stay in St. Peter's Basilica longer, don’t leave with your guide to take photos in the piazza. Re-entry on your own is not recommended due to the long security line. The guide will not explain much of anything from the piazza so we recommend you stay and explore on your own after the tour is over.
If you want to experience some of the best views in Rome, climb St. Peter’s Dome. Before leaving St. Peter’s Basilica, ask our guide how to access St. Peter's Dome. You can either skip over 300 steps by catching an elevator part of the way, or climb the entire way to the top like a champ. Tickets to the dome cost about 5-7 euros, but trust us, the view is definitely worth it.

I originally booked onto the early morning express Vatican tour however, the Vatican had a last minute closure due to the pope blessing something. TheI originally booked onto the early morning express Vatican tour however, the Vatican had a last minute closure due to the pope blessing something. The Roman Guy got in touch with me and were very quick to arrange for another tour (or offered refund if not). I booked onto the same tour however it was at 10:15 rather than early entry.
The tour meet time was 10:15. This meant we would be waiting near the front of the ridiculous long queues. We got in around 11:00 although that wait did not feel long as our tour guide kept us very entertained teaching us about the history and archaeology of the site we were about to enter.
The tour finished at 1:15pm where we were left in the Basilica to check out the tombs below, climb the stairs and/or go on our way. I learnt so much in this tour, and I do not mean from a religious perspective (I am not religious)... the history is quite fascinating.
My tour guide was Ferdinando; he is a historian and qualified archeologist. I can absolutely, positively recommend him...more
