Top Places To Stay in Rome
While this list most definitely includes Rome’s most expensive hotels it does not only include the most expensive ones. We have four categories covered in this order:
Our Partnership with Booking.com. If you like our content, please book by clicking on our Booking.com links. The price is the same for you and we get a small commission that helps support our helpful blog content. The Best “Super Expensive” Hotels in Rome
Have a few thousand euros per night to burn on a place to stay? This part of the list is most definitely for you. These are the poshest, most luxurious, and accomodating places to stay in Rome. Keep your eyes peeled for movie stars, but if you are staying here you probably are one!
“Super Expensive” Prices: Expect to pay over $650 for standard rooms in these hotels. Most of these hotels have epic suites which can price beyond $30k/night. That obviously will vary, so click the link which will take you to Booking.com to see prices.
Hotel de Russie
€€€€+ | 5 Star | Timeless Luxury | Piazza del Popolo
Hotel de Russie has been one of the most popular hotels in Rome for VIPs for decades. It has been frequented by Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and other international celebrities. The hotel is designed in classic Italian style featuring clean lines, pops of bright color, and open sightlines.
The hotel is situated at the mouth of Piazza del Popolo in the northern part of Rome’s historical center. It has a massive outdoor courtyard with no visible buildings behind it which makes it feel like you are in the countryside. In reality, you are in the center of all the action.
The structure is just below Villa Borghese, a massive and beautiful park in Rome, which makes it feel like you are in a rural setting. It is a 5-minute walk from the Spanish Steps and near to all of Rome’s best shopping. The service will make you feel like you are in a 16th-century fairy tale from the front desk to the doorman in the over-sized top hat. If you have the money then this is the spot.
Hotel de la Ville
€€€€+ | 5 Star | Timeless Luxury | Piazza del Popolo/Spanish Steps
It turns out that the owners of Hotel de Russie also own the second most famous hotel in Rome! Hotel de la Ville has the same classical style as Hotel de Russie and is located right down the street. The courtyard is in no way as opulent, but very cool nonetheless.
You may get slightly more space in your room here, but less extravagant common spaces than Russie. That said, this hotel is definitely one of the nicest hotels in Rome which can be seen if you stay in one of their suites.
The featured image of this article (top of post) shows the terrace connected to “Suite de la Ville” which is one of the most extravegant suites in all of Rome. The view from the terrace is incredible and would without a doubt make your stay in the Eternal city a very memorable one!
Fendi Private Suites
€€€€+ | 5 Star | Designer Luxury | Via Condotti/Spanish Steps
It is a common misconception that all Italian fashion houses are from Milan. Fendi was opened up in 1925 on Via del Plebiscito in Rome. The original fur shop no longer exists today, but Fendi is as much Roman today as the day it opened in 1925.
Fendi opened some private suites for people to stay at above the flagship store in Rome, which is located at the end of Via Condotti. Without any surprise, the fashion house designed and decorated some of the most luxurious and exclusive accommodation in the city.
The rooms come with a price-tag, but anyone buying “Fendi” knows that. The hotel is comprised of suites and their least expensive suite will run you over a grand per night in June.

Hassler Rome
€€€€+ | 5 Star | Iconic Landmark | Top of Spanish Steps
The Hassler is a gorgeous hotel and as much of a landmark to Rome as any other monument in the city. The hotel is arguably as nice as any other fancy hotel in Rome but has the additional history to go with it.
The Hassler was opened in 1947 just after WWII and quickly became the in-spot for Rome. When you stay there you can sleep soundly knowing that someone of historical importance most definitely stayed in that very same room.
I could have been Frank Sinatra, the late Princess Diana, J.F.K, or even Eisenhower himself. Audrey Hepburn took up residence in the iconic hotel while filming Roman Holiday. Who’s to blame her? The hotel is literally on top of the Spanish Steps hosting the best views in the city.
Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria
€€€€ | Massive Hotel & Property | Multiple Pools | Rooftop Dining* | Family Friendly
Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria is easily the best pool option in Rome. The hotel has the look and feel like no other hotel in Rome. It is massive like a resort but a short drive from the center and the Vatican City.
The hotel is home to Rome’s only 3 Michelin star restaurant, La Pergola, which has been led by Heinz Beck for quite some time. The only down-side to the Waldorf Astoria is it is not in the historical center, but it is easy to grab a taxi and the hotel grounds are pretty cool so it balances out!
Runner-Up Hotels
Here are some other great hotels in this same class of super expensive. Notice they come in at a lower price range which is mostly due to their locations. Many are on the main road or near the train station. That said, you can get luxury accommodation at a lower price.
The Best “Expensive” Hotels in Rome
The “Super Expensive” category is likely limited to venture capitalists, the founders of Google, Tom & Giselle Brady, arms dealers, and mega power-ball winners. That said, the “Expensive” category is possibly attainable for other more modest professions like doctors, lawyers, and astronauts.
“Expensive” Prices: While the prices of hotels change rapidly, expect these hotels to range from $350 to $649 per night for a range of rooms. That obviously will vary, so click the link which will take you to Booking.com to see prices.
Eitch Borromini Palazzo Pamphilj
€€€€ | 5 Star | Central Location | Piazza Navona | Rooftop Bar
Looking for a truly magical Roman experience? Look no further since Eitch Borromoni is a hotel literally built into a side of a 17th-century Baroque church overlooking Piazza Navona.
The accommodations are lavish but not without ancient charms. You’ll find wooden beams running through most rooms and classical finishes. It also features one of the best rooftop bars & restaurants in all of Rome.
Grand Hotel de la Minerve
€€€€ | 5 Star | Central Location | Pantheon | Rooftop Bar
Grand Hotel de la Minerva is just off the southeast corner of the Pantheon and is known for large lavish rooms, great service, and an amazing rooftop bar & restaurant.
It is a great choice for a stay in Rome because it is in the center of everything yet somehow in a quiet area. Just close enough to action in all directions but far enough to sleep well with the windows open.
Hotel d’Inghliterra Roma
€€€€ | 5 Star | Spanish Steps | Fantastic Location | Rooftop Restaurant
Hotel d’Inghliterra is a wonderful hotel right near the Spanish steps but tucked away from all the commotion. While Hotel de la Minerve shares a similar description, I much prefer this location and Hotel d’Inghliterra also has a great rooftop restaurant.

Singer Palace Hotel
€€€€ | 5 Star | Spanish Steps | Modern & Classical Roman | Rooftop Lounge
The Singer Palace Hotel is an amazing recently opened hotel that combines classic Italian style with Roman design. The hotel was the headquarters of the Singer Corporation who manufactured the famous sewing machines!
Now is a larger boutique hotel with 30 rooms including 10 suites all decorated to the nines! One of the main features is the floating staircase which you have to see for yourself.
It is slightly less expensive than hotels like the Hotel de Russie but equally as nice. It is simply less “grand” and expansive in terms of large common areas which makes the price less grand.
Horti 14 Borgo Trastevere Hotel
€€€€ | Trastevere | Modern Concept Hotel | Rooftop Lounge
I personally don’t know what “modern concept hotel” means but this place is pretty cool but that comes with a price tag. For me, this hotel is a little bit over-priced, but for a particular type of traveler that wants something unique and different, it’s perfect.
The rooms are beautifully designed, obviously clean, and the outdoor spaces are some of the best in this price range. It is tucked into a very “local” part of Trastevere that is well connected to the best nightlife in the center. I actually lived a block down from this hotel for years and had some of my fondest memories in this area.
Sina Bernini Bristol Hotel
€€€€+ | 5 Star | Central Location | Piazza Barberini | Rooftop Bar & Pool
Sina Bernini Bristol is a classic and beautiful hotel in Rome which attracts VIPs from all over. It has a magical rooftop bar & restaurant which is host to amazing views. It is in Piazza Barberini, which is a heavy vehicle traffic area, but it is just slightly back off the street with its own small driveway.
This allows you to get out of your vehicle in peace and not worry as much Roman vehicle traffic. The rooftop bar is home to an amazing little pool which is nice in the summer especially if you have children.

Grand Hotel Palace | €€€€+ | 5 Star | Via Veneto
Baglioni Hotel Regina | €€€€+ | 5 Star | Via Veneto
The Best “Mid-Range Lux” Hotels in Rome
These rooms will start looking more and more obtainable but they are definitely not cheap. Rome, in general, is not an expensive city, but the hotels often leave you wondering what you spent your money on. This category will include comfortable nice accommodation that is anything but cheap yet still will make you feel good about your hotel.
“Mid-Range Lux” Prices: While the prices of hotels change rapidly, expect these hotels to range from $225 to $349 per night for a standard room. That obviously will vary, so click the link which will take you to Booking.com to see prices.
Hotel Valadier
€€€ | 4 Star | Piazza del Popolo | Rooftop Bar
Hotel Valadier is my personal favorite hotel in Rome because it is a great hotel with fantastic prices in the perfect location. It has a “Great Gatsby” design mixed with classical Roman finishes including rooms with antique beams and grand paintings.
Navona Queen Rooftop
€€€ | 4 Star | Piazza Navona | Rooftop Bar & Lounge
Navona Queen rooftop is a nice little gem. Really great prices and in a location that I love. The rooms are updated and comfortable which makes its an easy choice for the prices. The rooftop bar & lounge is pretty cool and they even have a hot tub which could come in handy after a long day of touring.
Hotel Barocco
€€€ | 4 Star | Piazza Barberini
Hotel Barocco is an excellent hotel with spacious and comfortable rooms at a great price which makes it an easy choice I like its location, Piazza Barberini, but don’t love all the vehicle traffic outside. That said, it is a short walk from the Spanish Steps with all the shopping and generally close to the Field of Mars (Piazza Navona & Campo de Fiori area) where there are great restaurants.

Otivm Hotel Rome
€€€ | 4 Star | Piazza Venezia/Jewish Ghetto | Rooftop Bar
I really like the price, location, and condition of this hotel. It is literally right in the center of Rome. You can walk to basically any monument in the city which for me is key. You also can easily walk to all the best restaurants, bars, and nightlife.
The only negative is that Piazza Venezia has a ton of vehicle traffic and a small bus depot which makes it one of the loudest parts of the city day and night. That said, the hotel likely has taken that into consideration and installed windows that keep out the noise. They are tucked back a little bit from the main piazza as well so you may be safe from the noise. I personally enjoy keeping my windows open in Italy but the center of Rome is generally which makes this issue difficult to avoid.

The Best “Low-Cost” Hotels in Rome
I, unfortunately, can’t recommend a “crappy” hotel which tends to be the cheapest. That said, I have a few go-to options in Rome which are inexpensive and clean. Don’t expect much, but if you a “no-frills” type person or have a tight budget then it will due.
“Low-Cost” Prices: While the prices of hotels change rapidly, expect these hotels to range from $125 to $200 per night for standard rooms – $200 may not sound cheap, but welcome to Rome.
Pricing will obviously vary, so click the link which will take you to Booking.com to see prices. If you want even cheaper, you can also go to Booking.com and look for the cheapest hotels in the center.
Monti Palace Rome
€€ | 4 Star | Monti & Colosseum | Rooftop Bar
Personally, I don’t love hotels on main roads but this one is good value. The price is low and the facilities are updated and clean. Other than being located on the main road, the location is very good. Monti is a very cool neighborhood in Rome with lots of restaurants, bars, and action. You are just a few steps from the Colosseum and other cool monuments.
The price hovers just above $200/night in the highest of high season which makes it a great value for me. I don’t think you can go wrong here.
Coronari Palace Rome
€ | 2 Star | Piazza Navona / Castel Sant Angelo
If I am going to Rome on non-romantic trip or on a budget, this is going to be the place for me. Facilities are clean, comfortable, and inexpensive… really inexpensive. I like the contemporary clean lines of this hotel and appreciate the attention to detail given the price. For me, its a no-brainer for a business trip.
Location is also fantastic since it is footsteps from Piazza Navona and Rome’s nightlife.
Hotel 87 eighty-seven stars
€ | 4 Star | Piazza Barberini / Trevi Fountain
As I have mentioned before, I don’t love hotels on the main road like this because of the vehicle traffic, but at this price, I am good with it. This works for a romantic trip or a business trip but likely not with small children since the hotel is right on the main road.
Other Great Hotels:
Hotel dei Mellini | 4 Star | € | Vatican
Trevi Rome Suite | Apartment | Trevi Fountain
Ripetta Palace | 1 Star | Piazza del Popolo
