8 BEST FAMILY-FRIENDLY Hotels in ROME for 2021

Sean Finelli Last Updated: July 20, 2021

Heading to Rome with your kids and want to find a hotel that will make the stay enjoyable? You came to the right place. I have traveled to Rome many times with my children and have been through it all. That is why I curated this list of the best family-friendly hotels and apartments in Rome.

The 8 Best Family-Friendly Rome Hotels in 2021

For me, family-friendly doesn’t mean that they have a little sticker on their site that says “we love kids!” It means that you as a parent will be able to relax at the hotel because it is accommodating to kids. I am not talking about the staff, Italians adore children so you will have no problem with that at any hotel in Italy.

I basically look for a few key things. Space for kids to move around. That could be a rooftop, courtyard, or nearby park. Larger rooms so you don’t feel cramped. They may just have larger rooms or they are on the cheaper side so you can upgrade your room. A pool is also a big bonus, but you can’t find that everywhere. Traffic is a big concern for me so I avoid properties on high-traffic streets. I break that rule occasionally if the hotel is also close to a peaceful park or pedestrian area to run around.

8. Colonna Palace Hotel

€€ | 4 Star | Pantheon / Via Del Corso | Family Friendly | Rooftop Pool

Colonna Palace is an interesting option. It is a 4 star modest hotel in the center. You won’t see modern finishes but you will get a comfortable and clean hotel in the center for a very good price.

If you are traveling with kids this is perfect. Expanding into a larger room won’t break your budget and there is a modest pool on the rooftop. You could likely jump clear over this body of water, but you’re kids will love and appreciate it which is likely why ownership installed it.

The rooftop is also quite pleasant with great views of St. Peter’s Basilica. For me, this hotel has really great value for what you are paying.

7. Navona Queen Rooftop

€€€ | 4 Star | Piazza Navona | Rooftop Bar & Lounge | Family Friendly

Navona Queen rooftop is a nice little gem. Really great prices and in a location that I love. The rooms are updated and comfortable which makes it an easy choice for the prices. The rooftop bar & lounge is pretty cool and they even have a hot tub which could come in handy after a long day of touring. It’s not so high-end that you feel uncomfortable with your little ones running around and there is a lot of space on the rooftop.

6. Coronari Palace Rome

Coronari Palace Hotel Rome

€ | 2 Star | Piazza Navona / Castel Sant Angelo | Family Friendly

If I am going to Rome on a non-romantic trip or on a budget, this is going to be the place for me. Facilities are clean, comfortable, and inexpensive… really inexpensive. I like the contemporary clean lines of this hotel and appreciate the attention to detail given the price. For me, it’s a no-brainer for a business trip.

The Coronari Palace makes my “Family Friendly” list for Rome because it’s cheap and the location is also fantastic. The price makes it easy to upgrade your room to a larger room with possibly some outdoor space.

The hotel is footsteps from Piazza Navona which is completely pedestrian and massive. The surrounding side streets are also pretty pedestrian other than the occasional moped/motto. I know that sounds stressful, and you should always be on high guard with your kids, but Italians are extremely cautious when driving on pedestrian roads.

5. Sina Bernini Bristol Hotel

Sina Bernini Bristol Hotel

€€€€+ | 5 Star | Piazza Barberini | Rooftop Bar & Pool | Family Friendly

Sina Bernini Bristol is a classic and beautiful hotel in Rome which attracts VIPs from all over. It has a magical rooftop bar & restaurant which is host to amazing views. It is in Piazza Barberini, which is a heavy vehicle traffic area, but it is just slightly back off the street with its own small driveway.

This allows you to get out of your vehicle in peace and not worry as much Roman vehicle traffic. The rooftop bar is home to an amazing little pool which is nice in the summer especially if you have children.

I normally avoid “posh” hotels with kids as a nicety for other guests. My kids are loud and like to run around and I don’t like trying to keep them under control, especially on holiday. While the Sina Bernini Bristol is definitely “posh” there are a lot of open spaces, like the rooftop, and the rooms have some additional space to move around. That, and there is a pool!

4. Horti 14 Borgo Trastevere Hotel

Horti 14 Borgo

€€€€ | Trastevere | Modern Concept Hotel | Rooftop Lounge | Family Friendly

I personally don’t know what “modern concept hotel” means but this place is pretty cool but that comes with a price-tag. For me, this hotel is a little bit over-priced, but for a particular type of traveler that wants something unique and different, it’s perfect.

The rooms are beautifully designed, obviously clean, and the outdoor spaces are some of the best in this price range. It is tucked into a very “local” part of Trastevere that is well connected to the best nightlife in the center. I actually lived a block down from this hotel for years and had some of my fondest memories in this area.

This hotel is a particularly “Family Friendly” choice for Rome because many if not all rooms open up directly to an out-door space. It is also at the end of a road with almost no traffic. Finally, you are in Trastevere which is largely traffic-free.

3. Monti Palace Rome

Monti Palace Rome

€€ | 4 Star | Monti & Colosseum | Rooftop Bar | Family Friendly

Personally, I don’t love hotels on main roads but this one is good value. Price is low and the facilities are updated and clean. Other than being located on the main road, the location is very good. Monti is a very cool neighborhood in Rome with lots of restaurants, bars, and action. You are just a few steps from the Colosseum and other cool monuments.

The price hovers just above $200/night in the highest of high season which makes it a great value for me. I don’t think you can go wrong here.

It makes my “Family-Friendly” list for Rome because it is reasonably priced so you can upgrade to a more spacious room. It also has a rooftop that your kids could run around a bit while you enjoy a glass of wine.

The hotel is situated in the Monti Neighborhood which has some traffic, but there are also some pedestrian areas like Piazza della Madonna dei Monti which are completely roped off from traffic. You can buy a “to go” drink from the convenient store and sit in the piazza while your kids play. It is a super local thing to do! Check out our list of the best restaurants in Monti and near the Colosseum.

You can also easily walk to the Colosseum which has free access pedestrian areas to run around.

2. Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria

€€€€ | 5 Star | Massive Hotel & Property | Multiple Pools | Rooftop Dining* | Family Friendly

Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria is easily the best pool option in Rome. The hotel has the look and feel like no other hotel in Rome. It is massive like a resort but a short drive from the center and the Vatican City.

The hotel is home to Rome’s only 3 Michelin star restaurant, La Pergola, which has been led by Heinz Beck for quite some time. The only down-side to the Waldorf Astoria is it is not in the historical center, but it is easy to grab a taxi and the hotel grounds are pretty cool so it balances out!

1. Fauno Urban Resort Roma

€€ | Local Location | Circus Maximus & Colosseum | Pool

This hotel is super cool. It is basically a 60s villa that has been well-kept and turned into a hotel/relaxation spa. Their prices are super low, which may be temporary due to Covid, which makes it really attractive. It is very rare that you get a backyard spread like this in Rome.

Very nice modern spaces and a great backyard to relax. The pool is good for laps and exercise in the morning or relax after a day of touring.
