Tour Itinerary

  • 1

Your tour begins at the Queen Anne Statue

Meet your private guide beside the Queen Anne Statue at the West Entrance of St. Paul's Cathedral. Then, use your timed entry tickets to head straight inside, where your guide sets the scene for Sir Christopher Wren's 17th-century masterpiece.
  • 2

    Step into Wren's towering nave

Inside, the nave opens up beneath towering columns and intricate carvings. Your guide explains how Wren rebuilt the cathedral after the Great Fire of 1666, and how it survived the bombing raids of the Blitz.
  • 3

Admire the mosaics above the high altar

Glittering mosaics cover the ceilings above the high altar, illustrating biblical scenes in gold and glass. Rebuilt after World War II, the altar anchors the space directly beneath the cathedral's vast dome.
  • 4

    Climb to the Whispering Gallery

Next comes the dome climb. Sit in the Whispering Gallery, where a murmur against the curved wall carries to the far side. Tell your guide if you want to continue up to the Golden Gallery for skyline views over London.
  • 5

    Descend into the crypt

Below the cathedral floor lies the crypt, the resting place of Admiral Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington. Your guide points out lesser-known figures too, among them artists, scientists, and military leaders.
  • 6

Walk through the historic Square Mile

Outside, the tour continues into London's ancient financial core. Cross Guildhall Yard, where the city has been governed for centuries, then reach Bank Junction, ringed by the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange.
  • 7

Your tour ends at the Monument to the Great Fire

Wren's 202-foot column marks where the Great Fire of 1666 began. Your guide ties the day's stories together here, steps from London Bridge, leaving you well placed for lunch or a riverside walk along the Thames.

An Unforgettable Deep Dive into London History!
Kevin K., 17 April 2026

We booked a private tour of St. Paul’s Cathedral and it was easily the highlight of our trip. Our guide, Ben, was absolutely fantastic—incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and paced the tour perfectly. While the entire cathedral is stunning, two parts really stood out: The Crypt: Ben brought the history to life down here. Seeing the resting places of Nelson and Wellington felt so much more impactful with his storytelling. The Dome Climb: Taking the stairs all the way to the top was a challenge, but Ben made the journey interesting. The views from the galleries are the best in London! If you want to see St. Paul’s properly, ask for Ben. Having a private expert makes all the difference in appreciating the scale and detail of this iconic place. Highly recommended!

Absolutely Fabulous

Our tour was wonderful! We couldn’t thank Ben enough for the deep insight to all that was St. Paul’s Cathedral and some of the surrounding London city. We will definitely do this again!

The Grandeur of St. Paul’s
Deborah E., 27 February 2025

Climbing to the top of St. Paul’s was worth it for the views! The tour covered the crypt, Whispering Gallery, and some fascinating history. Our guide made everything engaging and fun

Family Surprise
Sharon E., 24 February 2025

Our Guide Marg made this tour very family friendly. Something that we were a bit worried about being a Cathedral. The worry was eliminated as soon as we met our guide. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tour family friendly?

Yes. Because the tour is private, your guide can adjust the pace and the focus for younger travelers. Keep in mind the gallery climb involves a long staircase, and you're welcome to skip it and stay at cathedral floor level.

What if I am concerned about mobility?

As this is a private tour, the itinerary can be adapted to your needs. The dome galleries are reached only by stairs with no lift alternative, though the nave, high altar, and crypt can all be explored without the climb. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns about your mobility.

Can I visit on a Sunday?

St. Paul's Cathedral is closed to sightseeing on Sundays, so tours that day focus on the exterior and the Square Mile walk. Your guide will confirm the plan with you in advance.

How much walking is involved?

Expect a steady amount. You'll cover the cathedral floor and the crypt, then continue outdoors through Guildhall Yard and Bank Junction to the Monument. The optional climb to the Whispering, Stone, and Golden Galleries adds several hundred steps, and it's entirely your choice.

Is the dome climb included?

Yes, and it's optional. Tell your guide at the start if you'd like to go up, and they'll build it into your route. The Whispering Gallery comes first, with the Stone and Golden Galleries higher up the dome.

Is lunch included?

Meals are not included on this tour. Your guide can point you toward places to eat near the Monument and around the Square Mile once the tour finishes.
