Walk Through the Heart of Rome’s Jewish Ghetto

In the early evening, meet your local host and the rest of your intimate group of travelers in Piazza Mattei, a beautiful square in the center of the Jewish Ghetto.

As you walk to the restaurant from your meeting point, your host will explain the fascinating history of the area, as well as point out key sights. You’ll also pass by many of the lively restaurants and shops in the area, where you’ll notice that Kosher, Jewish Roman, and Roman cuisine are all offered.

Learn to Make a Classic Roman Meal

Once you arrive at the restaurant, you’ll meet your expert chef who will be ready to walk you through the steps of creating an authentic Roman dinner. As you follow the chef’s step-by-step instruction, they’ll also explain more about the Jewish neighborhood and its unique cuisine.

You’ll begin by making fresh pasta from scratch, or depending on the seasonality, traditional gnocchi. You’ll learn the secrets to making a perfect pasta or gnocchi dough! Next, prepare and fry fresh vegetables, which will be based on what’s in season. If your class takes place in the winter, you’ll enjoy delicious artichokes cooked in a traditional Jewish style, while summer attendees will likely be treated to zucchini flowers.

Close off the meal by whipping up a classic Roman dessert, torta di ricotta e visciole, a mouthwatering ricotta cheesecake.

Buon Appetito!

Finally, sit down with your fellow chefs to enjoy your incredible feast in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Cheers with a glass of Italian wine as you dig into your delectable homemade pasta and vegetables.

After devouring your Roman dessert, you can finish off the class with an evening stroll through the streets of the Jewish Ghetto, and you’ll be free to head back to your hotel or continue your exploration of one of Rome’s most intriguing neighborhoods.
