Skip-the-Line Paris Catacombs Tickets
Descend into the underground ossuary and wander bone-lined tunnels at your own self-guided pace
Paris Catacombs tickets sell out fast. Daily entry caps and lines that can stretch up to 3 hours leave many visitors missing out. This timed-entry ticket fixes that, and because it is self-guided, you can explore at your own pace. Spiral down into the dim ossuary, then wander the Lower Catacombs past stacked skulls, the Barrel of Passion, and the Well that fooled quarrymen. If you want Paris at its strangest and aren’t looking for a group tour, this ticket-only visit is the one.

1
Your tour begins at the Catacombs entrance
Find the Catacombs entrance at Place Denfert-Rochereau in southern Paris. Scan your barcode at your timed entry slot, then begin the descent below the streets. -
2
Descend through the Gates of Hell
A tight spiral staircase winds down to a sign that welcomes you through the Gates of Hell. Pass beneath it into the cool, dim ossuary, where the bones of more than 6 million Parisians line the stone walls. -
3
Wander the bone-lined ossuary tunnels
Follow the narrow passages deeper into the Lower Catacombs, lit only by dim lights. Skulls and femurs are stacked into walls and arranged in careful patterns, a macabre display built from the city's overflowing cemeteries. -
4
Discover the historic Well
Next, reach the Well, the first site of geological drilling in Paris. Peer into its strangely clear water, once used to play tricks on new quarrymen who mistook the still surface for solid ground in the gloom. -
5
Marvel at the Barrel of Passion and the Citadel of Mahon
Enter the Crypt of Passion to see two of the Catacombs' most famous sights: the Barrel of Passion, a circular column made of skulls and leg bones, and the Citadel of Mahon, a detailed fortress carved into the stone from memory by a French army veteran named Décure. -
6
Your tour ends back at street level
Finally, climb the winding staircase back up to the streets of the 14th arrondissement. Step out into daylight with the strange history of underground Paris fresh in your mind.
