On this captivating leg of your journey, delve into the splendor of Madrid’s royal past, beginning with the magnificent Royal Palace of Madrid. This colossal baroque masterpiece, once a Moorish fortress, stands as the official residence of Spain’s royal family, although it's no longer used as their home. Its sweeping gardens, stunning architecture, and opulent rooms evoke centuries of royal history. The adjacent Almudena Cathedral further enriches this experience with its blend of gothic and neo-romanesque styles. Consecrated by Pope John Paul II, this striking structure is revered as Madrid’s most important cathedral. Inside, you’ll encounter awe-inspiring frescoes, stained-glass windows, and the royal crypt, where Spanish royalty have been laid to rest.
Ancient temple and Plaza Mayor
From royal grandeur to the ancient past, the next stop takes you to the Templo de Debod, an extraordinary Egyptian temple. Given as a gift by Egypt in 1968, it sits atop a hill in Parque de la Montaña, offering panoramic views of Madrid’s skyline. This rare gift is the only Egyptian temple in the world located outside Egypt. Moving to the heart of Madrid, you’ll visit Plaza Mayor, one of the city’s oldest and most iconic public squares. Surrounded by grand arcades and traditional cafes, it’s been the site of countless historical events. Nearby, Puerta del Sol, known as Madrid's symbolic center, marks the origin of all of the city's major roads and is home to the famous clock tower, which rings in the New Year for the entire nation.
Iconic Landmarks and public squares
Finally, immerse yourself in Madrid’s public monuments and political heritage. The Fuente de Cibeles is a must-see, where the Roman goddess Cibeles, with her majestic chariot drawn by lions, stands as a symbol of Madrid’s strength and pride. It is also the site of jubilant celebrations, especially for football fans. Next, take a moment to appreciate the Plaza de las Cortes, where Spain's Parliament resides in a neoclassical building guarded by imposing lion statues. As you pass the Museo del Prado, marvel at the museum’s world-renowned façade, home to masterpieces by Spanish greats like Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco. These landmarks offer a glimpse into the political and artistic pulse of the city.
This private tuk-tuk tour offers a unique and comfortable way to explore Madrid's top landmarks in just two hours, guided by an expert who will share insights into the city’s rich history, from royal palaces to ancient temples, and concludes with a deeper appreciation of Madrid's culture and charm, ending back at Calle Sevilla 6, where the journey began.
