Start with a Sparkle at Rossio Square
Your delightful foodie adventure begins at the iconic D. Pedro IV statue in Rossio Square, right in the centre of Lisbon . Surrounded by ornate 18th-century buildings and the buzz of locals chatting away at colorful cáfes, you'll meet up with your expert guide and fellow foodies and enjoy a brief overview of the flavors you'll be tasting and sights you'll be seeing over the next three hours. Then, it's time to indulge!
Your first sample is a Portuguese delicacy, the famous codfish cake, paired with a glass of zesty green wine. These cakes, known locally as "bolinho de bacalhau," are a perfect blend of shredded salt cod (bacalhau), potatoes, onions, and parsley— deep-fried to golden perfection. Between glorious bites, listen as your guide shares stories of Portugal's seafaring past and its influence on the country's cuisine, particularly its love affair with codfish.
Savor the Bifana in Historic Baixa
Next, head deeper into the cobbled streets of Baixa, a district known for its elegant architecture and welcoming atmosphere. Here, you'll indulge in one of Lisbon's most beloved snacks: the bifana. This simple yet mouthwatering pork sandwich, seasoned with traditional spices and served with a draft beer, is a staple of Portuguese comfort food. As you enjoy your bifana, tune into your guide sharing helpful hints about the local way of ordering beer in Portuguese and insights into Lisbon’s Tasca (traditional tavern) culture.
Sip Traditional Drinks
Your journey continues to an authentic gourmet shop, where you’ll be introduced to time-tested culinary specialties. Taste the legendary port wine, perfectly complemented by the creamy São Jorge cheese, and browse shelves lined with intriguing products, like dried, salted Bacalhau and specialty sausages, hams, and cheeses.
Of course, no visit to Lisbon is complete without experiencing ginjinha, the city's cherished cherry liqueur. So, tuck into a locale dating back to 1840, where you’ll learn about the origins of this sweet, potent drink and its significance to Lisbon's identity. Then, the choice is yours, savor it "with or without".
Wrap up with Bread, Chouriço, and Red Wine
Your tour might be winding down, but there's still time to indulge in the easily loveable combination of Portuguese bread and chouriço, complemented by a glass of red wine. This simple yet flavorful pairing is quintessentially Portuguese and, paired with your guide's insights, is the perfect way to end your tour. Savor the last moments as a group, embracing the warm hospitality Portugal is renowned for, and be sure to ask your guide for more local recommendations to enjoy on your own. Tchau!

We joined the Ultimate Lisbon Food & Wine Walking Tour and had so much fun! Right from the start, our tour guide Maria was super friendly and eager to see everyone have a good time. From the delicious Bifanas with a Super Bock local beer to the Croquettes with local Vinho Verde green wine to the amazingly fresh seafood and rice dish with another local wine, everything was delicious. We were so full and the food kept coming! No restaurant wanted to send us away hungry but we still had more to visit! We were able to try so many dishes that were on my bucket list for Lisbon. We even met another couple that we had drinks with after the tour, and we're planning to see them when they visit Florida next month! I would do this tour again and can't wait to experience The Tour Guy tours in other destinations!
