Climb Florence's Famous Dome

As your train pulls in or you drive into Florence, the first building that will catch your eye is the Duomo. Against common belief. the word "duomo" does not mean dome but instead it means the main church of a town or city. This can be confusing as the Duomo of Florence is topped by the largest brick dome in the world, Brunelleschi's incredible cupola (Italian for dome). You will have the amazing opportunity to climb this structure passing the massive lines that build up.

The first stop on this Florence Full Day Tour is to climb the 463 steps to the top of the dome. You will skip right past the lines with your expert guide to the unbelievable view above all of Tuscany. Standing at 376 feet it is one of Italy's tallest buildings. The climb is a workout so make sure to wear walking shoes and that you are comfortable with the many staircases. Once at the top the climb is worth every step as the view is in comparable.

Statue of David

Once you descend from the top of the Dome, the next stop is the David. Located in the Accademia Gallery, you will see one of the world's most famous statues. Standing at 17 feet, the sheer size of this marble statue is unbelievable. Michelangelo revolutionized sculpture with the David creating detail and positioning that had never been seen. Photos cannot do the masterpiece justice as once you are in front of the massive Biblical king you will be in awe.  Originally located in front of Florence's city hall Palazzo Vecchio, the David was moved into the Gallery in 1873 for preservation. Since then an exact replica has been placed in the statues original location. Though you can see the "fake david" on your own, skipping the line to see the original statue is absolutely necessary and the perfect way to see the most of your day in Florence.

Florence Walking Tour

After the David we will break at the amazing San Lorenzo Market. Home to many amazing authentic food stalls, it is the best place to have lunch in Florence. After lunch, your guide will take you to the heart of Florence, Piazza della Signoria. The location of the main "fake david" as well as many other wonderful statues it is an abundantly artistic square. It is also home to the former center of the Medici family, the impressive Palazzo Vecchio. The Palazzo today acts as Florence's City Hall and is also home to a small museum.

Ponte Vecchio

From the center the next stop is down the Arno River, to the Ponte Vecchio. An over 1000 year old bridge last renovated in 1345, the bridge was originally home to Florence's Butchers. To improve the sanitation of the city, the butchers were removed and jewelers began to call the bridge home as they do today. Full of jewelers stands, the Ponte Vecchio is the perfect location to buy a very expensive souvenir to remember your time in Florence.

Uffizi Gallery

The last stop of the day is the Uffizi Gallery. Considered by many as the best collection of Renaissance art in the world it is a can't miss for your time in Florence. With your expert guide, you will see works by Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio and more. The most famous piece, and one of the most influential pieces in art history is Botticelli's Birth of Venus.  Depicting the goddess of love emerging from a clam shell, it is a symbol of beauty and purity. The Birth of Venus, is also now known to many as the logo for Botticelli Olive Oil, which has no relation to the artist Sandro Botticelli himself. After the tour you are welcome to remain in the Uffizi Gallery or head to dinner for an amazing Florentine dinner. Ask your guide for some recommendations and from there we will say Ciao!

Great view! Great Guide!

My siblings and I only get to go to Italy once every 5 years so when we do, we want to have the best time possible. We only had 24 hours in Florence on our way to Venice for more tours with the Roman Guy so this tour was perfect for us! We loved every second of it and all 4 of us had a day together we will never forget. We couldn't find anyone else who offered a tour like this. This was one of our favorites in Italy. We want to personally thank our guide and the Roman Guy for all the great tours we had with them in Italy. We'll be using them again on our next sibling trip.
