Additional Information

Discover what to expect, what's included, and everything you need to know before booking.

Good to know:

  • Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.

  • Accessibility: The standard route involves stairs, including the Scala Regia connecting the chapel to the basilica, which makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. • Tour Changes: St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings until 1:30pm, due to the Papal Audience. Tours during this time will not include basilica entry. Tours during special events may also experience a closure of St. Peter's Basilica.

  • Bag Policy: Camera tripods and large backpacks are not allowed in the museums, so please leave them at your hotel.

  • Please Note: Tours starting after 3:30pm are not guaranteed entry into St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.

Fantastic Private Vatican Tour
Jaygee D., 03 July 2026

Our family had a wonderful experience on the Vatican Uncovered: A Private, Detailed Tour. Enza was an outstanding guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the Vatican’s history and art. She made the tour engaging and easy to follow, and the five hours flew by. Her insights made the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica even more memorable. We highly recommend this tour, especially if you have Enza as your guide!

Elise was absolutely fantastic! She is absolutely brilliant and an amazing guide. She taught us so much on the tour, and her sense of humor and history are both wonderful and inspiring! I wish the tour lasted longer!

Patrizia is a 5 star tour guide!
Emily A., 25 April 2026

We had the most incredible private Vatican tour with Patrizia. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip. From start to finish, she was exceptional. Her knowledge of the Vatican, its history, and the art is unmatched, but what really stood out was how she made everything feel engaging, personal, and easy to follow. She navigated us through the crowds so seamlessly that the entire experience felt relaxed and effortless. Every detail was explained in a way that added so much meaning without ever feeling overwhelming. She also did a great job tailoring the tour to our group and pacing it perfectly. Being in the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica with her guidance made the experience so much more impactful than it would have been on our own. If you are considering a Vatican tour, book with Patrizia. It was absolutely worth it and something we will never forget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the chances my tour will be cancelled or the Vatican will close something?

Although it is rare, sometimes part of the Vatican closes with little notice. If an area normally covered on a tour is closed, your guide will be sure to make up the time in other areas.

Is this tour family friendly?

Yes, this private tour is great for families since the route can be adapted to your children's interests and energy levels. Keep in mind that it lasts five hours and involves extensive walking through crowded areas, so a soft baby carrier is highly recommended for infants.

Does this tour always include St. Peter's Basilica?

St. Peter's is included on this private Vatican Museums tour, except on Wednesdays & Saturdays when it is closed in the morning for the papal audience.

Is there a dress code to enter the religious sites on this tour?

We ask both men and women to cover knees and shoulders, otherwise you may be refused entry to religious sites and miss out on a portion of your tour. We understand the summers in Rome can be hot, so a great alternative is to bring a shawl/scarf/sweater with you. That way, you can cover your knees and shoulders when necessary.

What if I have concerns about my mobility on this tour?

The standard route involves stairs, including the Scala Regia connecting the chapel to the basilica, which makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. However, because this is a private experience, we can adjust the path to enter the basilica via St. Peter's Square instead. Please reach out in advance to arrange these mobility modifications.
