1
History of the Borghese Gallery
Sitting in Rome's most popular gardens, you'll find the beautiful Villa Borghese. Designed by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, a nephew of the pope, to serve as the family's mansion in the 17th century. -
2
Discover the Borghese Gallery
Within Rome’s incredible white house your local guide will show you one of the most impressive art galleries Italy has to offer. -
3
Works by Renaissance Masters
During your Borghese Gallery Guided Tour, you'll be shown one of the most mysterious and celebrated paintings ever, "The Sacred and Profane Love" by Titian! -
4
Caravaggio
Your expert guide will tell you the stories surrounding the turbulent life and everlasting legacy of Caravaggio, in a room almost entirely dedicated to the Italian genius’s paintings! -
5
Bernini
Ever seen a statue carved by an 11-year-old? This is supposedly how old Gian Lorenzo Bernini was when he performed his first work for the Borghese Cardinal! -
6
Raphael, Correggio, Titian, and more!
You'll be introduced to pieces which formed the foundation of this collection. Acquired by Cardinal Borghese are Raphael's 'Deposition of Christ' and works by Correggio, Dossi & Veronese. -
7
The Rape of Proserpina
At the age of 25 Bernini was already established as one of the greatest artist ever, and works like this, besides telling an incredible story, earn him the nickname "Michelangelo of Baroque"! -
8
Apollo and Daphne
The Ancient Roman poet Virgil spoke about it as a "Metamorphosis", but it's difficult to capture the essence of this mythical story like Bernini has in this sculpture! -
9
David with the Head of Goliath
400 years ago, this would be the equivalent of a horror movie. In this brilliant painting, Caravaggio brings us one of the most stunning portrayals of the Biblical story! -
10
Canova's "Paolina Bonaparte"
Portrayed as the Goddess Aphrodite, Napoleon's little sister posed nude for the artist and raised a lot of gossip stories at the time. -
11

Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Gian Lorenzo Bernini has many sculptures in this museum, four of which your guide will explain in depth since they have become the focal points of the Galleria Borghese artwork collection. Bernini's attention to detail will leave you speechless—creating the appearance of sweat down the back of Pluto and see-through cloth worn by Apollo. All of which was done using marble, a hammer and a variety of chisels! Genius! Your guide will explain some the techniques Bernini used, as well as stories about the man himself.
Caravaggio
Another major figure of the Baroque era was Caravaggio, and his works play a starring role in the Borghese Gallery. You'll visit a room dedicated almost entirely to Caravaggio's masterpieces. See and hear about his progression as a young artist into a true master of the trade, and learn about his "chiaroscuro" art style and his fascinating life—his dark past and eventual death make for a fascinating story. You’ll even learn lesser known stories like how one of his paintings foreshadowed his demise!
Inside the Borghese Gallery you'll find Caracaggio's Sick Bacchus, David With The Head Of Goliath, Palafrenieri, and many more.
Raphael, Correggio, Titian, and more!
Beyond the works of Bernini and Caravaggio, the Borghese Gallery houses pieces by some of the most celebrated artists of the Baroque period.
