Hop On at St. Sebastian Gate

Your exciting Appian Way e-bike tour adventure starts close to the Colosseum, where you'll connect with your expert tour guide and fellow adventurers and get fitted to your high-quality e-bike. Then, after a brief lesson on the ins and outs of using your bike, your friendly guide will give you an overview of your route –and off you go!

The first highlight of your journey is Porta San Sebastiano (St. Sebastian Gate), one of the largest and best-preserved gates in the Aurelian Wall and the starting point for your Appian Way cycle tour.

Cycle Through Parco della Caffarella and Egeria's Nymphaeum

Now that everyone is comfortable navigating on two wheels, you’ll make your way into the expansive Parco della Caffarella (Caffarella Park), a part of the larger Parco dell’Appia Antica. Here, nature, history, and archaeology coexist in a beautiful blend, and you’ll get to admire all three as you cycle past the moss-covered walls of Ninfeo di Egeria (Egeria's Nymphaeum), an ancient Roman monument that’s believed to be a sacred space dedicated to the water nymph, Egeria.

Explore Parco degli Acquedotti and Villa dei Quintili

Your journey then continues to the Parco degli Acquedotti (Aqueduct Park), also part of the larger Parco dell’Appia Antica and named after the impressive aqueducts that run through it. Stop for a close-up view of these remarkable feats of ancient engineering and listen as your guide shares fascinating details about Rome's water supply history. Not far off, you'll pass by Villa dei Quintili, once a luxurious countryside mansion owned by Emperor Commodus that’s still a sight to see today.

A Grand Finale of Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, Circus of Maxentius, and Baths of Caracalla

While your e-bike tour along the Appian Way may be coming to an end, there’s still plenty more to admire on your last few miles. Pass by the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, an impressive structure built in honor of Cecilia Metella, and the Circus of Maxentius, an ancient chariot racing stadium dating back to the 4th century. Then, ride alongside the Terme di Caracalla (Baths of Caracalla), one of the greatest and best-preserved bath complexes of antiquity, before ending your tour and saying a proper Italian ‘ciao’ to your friendly guide and newfound friends!

We are a family with 2 teenagers so this was a great way to break up the sightseeing in a fun and more active way. We were able to see the beautiful outskirts of Rome and learn about the history along the way. Our guide, Ava, was knowledgeable and engaging.
