Highlights of walking tour
Leaving the Duomo, you step into the luxurious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th-century architectural marvel. Under its magnificent glass dome, you’ll hear stories about its design and significance as you walk past elegant boutiques and cafes in what is often called Milan’s “living room.”Continue to Piazza della Scala, where your guide will point out the world-famous Opera House (Teatro alla Scala) and share anecdotes about its illustrious history and the legends who performed there. Conclude the morning at Piazza Affari, home of the Italian Stock Exchange and the ironic “L.O.V.E.” statue by Maurizio Cattelan — a bold, thought-provoking piece of contemporary art that reflects Milan’s modern, provocative spirit. Take a well-earned pause in the historic city center. You’ll have time to savor local Milanese specialties at one of the many charming cafes or trattorias nearby.
The Last Supper
Refreshed, you’ll explore Milan’s Renaissance side. Enter the UNESCO World Heritage church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and then, with skip-the-line access, stand before Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper — an awe-inspiring mural that changed the history of art.
End the Tour with the impressive Sforza Castle, a Renaissance fortress surrounded by the green expanse of Sempione Park. Cross the majestic Clock Tower, wander through the Army Courtyard, and learn about the powerful Sforza family and Leonardo’s life here as a guest of the dukes.
