Tour Itinerary

1
Your tour begins at Foster Street, Galway
Meet your guide in Galway City Centre on Foster Street, just outside the Hyde Hotel. Arrive at least 15 minutes early, then settle into your seat as you leave this lively Atlantic-side city for the open landscapes of Connemara in western Ireland. -
2
Drive past River Corrib and into Connemara’s lake country
Travel through Oughterard, a small village on the edge of Lough Corrib, a vast lake fed by the River Corrib, one of Galway’s main waterways. The scenery quickly shifts from town streets to peat bogs, stone walls, and wide valleys that feel miles from the modern world. -
3
Pass Maam Cross and climb into the Twelve Bens region
Continue through Maam Cross, a rural crossroads that locals use as a gateway into Connemara’s uplands. From here, you start seeing the Twelve Bens, a jagged line of quartzite peaks that define this part of County Galway and give Connemara its rugged, mountainous skyline. -
4
Spot Connemara film locations made famous worldwide
Roll through landscapes featured in classic films like The Quiet Man, plus films such as The Field and Marley & Me. Your guide points out the backdrops so they become easy to recognize and remember. -
5
Explore Leenane Village on the edge of Killary Fjord
Stop in Leenane, a tiny village tucked between steep hills at the head of Killary Fjord, Ireland’s only fjord, carved by glaciers and opening toward the Atlantic. Walk toward the water for photos, or use the short break to grab something small to eat before continuing. -
6
Hike Diamond Hill in Connemara National Park
Arrive at Connemara National Park for 2 hours of independent hiking on Diamond Hill, choosing from 3 marked routes depending on your pace and comfort level. The payoff is classic Connemara: sweeping views over bogland, lakes, and mountains, just keep an eye on the time, as the coach cannot wait beyond the allotted window. -
7
Pause at the Killary Fjord overlook
Make a quick photo stop above the fjord, where the water forms a natural boundary between County Galway and County Mayo. It’s one of the best places to understand just how dramatic this coastline-and-mountain landscape is. -
8
Ride through Inagh Valley and into Gaeltacht communities
Continue through Inagh Valley, one of Connemara’s most scenic corridors, then head toward Gaeltacht areas, regions where Irish (Gaelic) is still spoken as a first language. Your guide shares what that means in everyday life, from local place names to cultural traditions that have stayed strong here. -
9
Visit An Spidéal on the Wild Atlantic Way
Stop in An Spidéal (Spiddal), a seaside village on the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s famous coastal driving route. Stretch your legs by the shore, browse local crafts, and feel the Atlantic wind that shapes this coast year-round. -
10
Your tour ends at Galway City Centre
Return via Salthill (Galway’s seaside promenade area) and Barna (a coastal village just outside the city), arriving back in Galway in the early evening. You’ll finish close to the city centre with time to head straight to dinner, ask your guide for a recommendation.
