Round-trip Transportation from Barcelona
Leave the hassle of getting to the mountain monastery to us. You'll join your local guide and small group for a comfortable drive out of Barcelona and up into the mountains. There are many ways to get to Montserrat, but you can sit back and relax while we take care of getting you there and back safely.
Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat
This beautiful monastery sits in an incredible position on the mountainside, overlooking the Catalonian countryside below. Your guide will take you on a tour of the monastery's grounds, explaining the history that dates back to the 11th century, and giving an insight into the lives to the monks who have lived here over the centuries.
The monastery is dedicated to Our Lady of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, and also features a statue of the Virgin Mary. According to legend, the statue surfaced nearby during the 9th century. Some accounts claim that it may even be older, and the locals refer to it as the Moreneta or the "little dark one."
Free Time to Explore
After your visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat, you'll have around 2 hours of free time to explore the area before reuniting with the group and your guide to travel to your lunch spot. We recommend hiking over to Creus de Sant Miquel for a fantastic view of the monastery and the surrounding area.
If you're not interested in hiking around the area, but you want to enjoy the spectacular views, you can book your own tickets on the funicular that takes you to the top of Sant Joan Hill. This departs from the monastery but is not included in the price of this tour.
Another favorite is the Black Madonna statue, thought to have appeared nearby in the 9th century and found by local shepherds. It's attracted pilgrims here for centuries, and if you buy a ticket in advance then you can join them for your moment with the mysterious statue.
Please note that the funicular usually doesn't operate in January and February. We also recommend purchasing tickets to see the Black Madonna in advance.
Visit the Local Market
Montserrat is home to a splendid market that sells delicious local produce every day, so make sure to explore this local gem after your hike. Your guide will let you know what the typical delicacies of the area are, and you'll have the chance to purchase local cheeses, cured meats, pastries and more. Enjoy it there or bring some home with you!
3-Course Catalonian Lunch and Wine Tasting
After departing Montserrat, you'll head to a wonderful local restaurant, where a hearty 3-course lunch is being prepared. You'll enjoy traditional Catalonian favorites made with the freshest ingredients from the area, and get a taste of the food that has been enjoyed here for centuries.
Then, before heading back to Barcelona for the evening, you'll visit a renowned local winery set in beautiful countryside, where you'll sample three gorgeous organic wines that have been made on site. It's the perfect way to end your day in the mountains!

Gus was a fabulous tour guide! The day started with meeting at Barcelona Nord, which was easy to navigate. Then onto Monserrat where we received an informative and friendly tour to introduce us to the gorgeous mountain. Then free time to explore. The hike to the cross was breathtaking! Then on to the organic family owned winery that was so charming and beautiful. Thanks for an amazing tour!
