Climb Florence's Famous Dome

The iconic Duomo is Florence's most recognized landmark. Contrary to popular belief, the word "duomo" does not refer to the dome of the church, but instead identifies the principal church or cathedral of a town or city. The Florence Cathedral, or "Duomo", is topped by a magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. Taking over 140 years to complete, the inspiration for the Duomo was taken from the Pantheon in Rome.

Your guide will show you around Piazza del Duomo, explaining the detailed history behind the Cathedral, Baptistery and Bell Tower. From there, you will skip past the line and climb the big red dome, overlooking the beautiful city below you. The climb consists of 463 steps, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. There is no better way to take in the sights and panoramic views of Renaissance Florence. By the end of this experience, you’ll be an expert in Florentine art and architecture.

Statue of David

The next stop is the Accademia. The Galleria dell'Accademia is home to one of the most famous works of art in the world: the Statue of David. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, or simply Michelangelo for short, was the only artist in Florence who could work with this block of marble. The result? He turned it into a world-famous masterpiece! Don't be fooled, while there are three David statues in various locations around Florence, only this one is the real deal.

You will find the original statue of David inside the Accademia Gallery. If you visit on your own, long lines are inevitable. However, on this special guided Florence Tour, skip the line tickets are included as well as a professional guide. The only line you need to stand in at the Accademia will be a very short security line. Compared to the regular entrance line, you breeze right on inside.

Walking Tour of Historic Florence

The center of the Renaissance, Florence was home to the influential Medici family. The patrons of art, buildings and infrastructure the Renaissance likely could not have occurred without their influence.  On this walk through the city you will visit many sites commissioned by the Medici including their palace and city hall, Palazzo Vecchio. Located in front of Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, the impressive main square of the city, you will find one Florence's slightly less famous "fake Davids".

Ponte Vecchio

As the tour continues through the historic center you will reach the River Arno. Together we will cross the river over the incredible Ponte Vecchio or Old Bridge in English. Last renovated in 1345, the bridge originally was home to butchers and other food vendors but were replaced by jewelers in order to better the sanitation of the area. If you are looking for a high end golden souvenirs, on the bridge is a perfect stop.

This tour was everything we wanted in Florence and more! We got a stunning view of the city, saw David, and had an amazing tour of the city with our guide, Francesca! Not having to wait in line and having a guide with such interesting information was well worth it. After this tour, we finished the day off with the flood tour and we couldn't have been happier!
