Espresso in Piazza Bra

Your Verona foodie adventure begins in front of Teatro Ristori, and if a small group of hungry-looking travelers doesn’t immediately catch your eye, look for your expert foodie guide. Then, once everyone has gathered, it’s time to kick off your morning in true Italian style—with an espresso and pastry. Beyond being deemed an art form, espresso is also very connected to social life, and you’ll undoubtedly hear lively Italian conversations happening all around you.

After finishing your coffee, it’s time to check out your surroundings. Meander over to the outside of the Arena, an amphitheater dating back to the 1st century AD, and admire how remarkably well-preserved it is today. Despite suffering damage from a devastating earthquake in the 12th century, it’s still easy to imagine its past life as a stage for gladiatorial battles, and thanks to your expert guide, you’ll learn all about its storied history and current use.

Aperitif in Piazza delle Erbe

Next, your expert guide will lead you along cobbled streets to Piazza delle Erbe, where you'll discover the vibrant atmosphere of a traditional Osteria. Historically, Osterie were modest eateries offering simple, home-cooked meals and a place to sip local wine. Today, while many have evolved into more upmarket venues, they retain their laidback atmosphere and regional cuisine. At an Osteria selected by your guide for its authenticity, you'll indulge in a classic aperitif. Think of local products like Soppressa salami and Monte Veronese cheese paired with Verona's crisp and refreshing cicchetti, small bites that come with an aperitivo.

Wine and Pasta near Arche Scaligere

In addition to its famed cuisine and stunning historical sights, Verona has quite the reputation for exquisite wine, and your next stop is all about discovering why. Tuck into a wine shop, where you're invited to sip your way through a variety of wines—from fruity Prosecco to the rich Valpolicella red wine.

Then, continue to a pasta shop, where the magic of tortellini making comes to life. Witness the meticulous process of mixing, rolling, and stuffing, followed by a chance to indulge in the fruits of this labor—fresh, handmade pasta that promises to put a permanent smile on your face.

Admire Historical Sights Before a Sweet Finale

This tour isn’t solely about delicious food and wine, though. Throughout, you can look forward to intriguing insights from your guide. A highlight is sure to be the Porta Borsari, an ancient Roman gate that once served as the main access point to Verona, as well as Ponte Garibaldi, a picturesque bridge that spans the Adige River.

Near this bridge, you'll also happen upon a historical gelateria, and hopefully, you've saved room because it's time for the sweet finale of your tour. Dig into a scoop of your choice and take advantage of this last opportunity to quiz your guide about nearby must-visit destinations. Your tour comes now to an end, and you’re now free to hang out and enjoy the neighborhood's vibrant atmosphere or continue on your way. Ciao!
