Climb Florence's Famous Dome

The iconic Duomo is Florence's most recognized landmark. Contrary to popular belief, the word "duomo" does not refer to the dome of the church, but instead identifies the principal church or cathedral of a town or city. The Florence Duomo is topped by a magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi which dominates the city skyline. Taking over 140 years to complete, the inspiration for the Duomo was taken from the Pantheon in Rome.

Your guide will show you around Piazza del Duomo, explaining the detailed history behind the Cathedral, Baptistery and Bell Tower. From there, you will skip past the line for a guided tour of the cathedral's magnificent art collection, highlights, and hidden gems.

Accessed via the exclusive Circular Room and Secret Terraces, you'll also have the chance to climb the famous dome. The climb consists of 463 steps, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. There is no better way to take in the sights and panoramic views of Renaissance Florence!

Free Time for a Florentine Lunch

Before you begin the next part of your tour, you'll have free time for lunch at one of the many wonderful restaurants in this part of the city. Lunch isn't included, but your guide will be happy to recommend some great local spots to try out.

Statue of David

The next stop is the Accademia. The Galleria dell'Accademia is home to one of the most famous works of art in the world: the Statue of David. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, or simply Michelangelo for short, was the only artist in Florence who could work with this block of marble. The result? He turned it into a world-famous masterpiece! Don't be fooled, while there are three David statues in various locations around Florence, only this one is the real deal.

Aside from the David, there are many wonderful and iconic pieces held inside the Accademia Gallery. If you visit on your own, long lines are inevitable. However, on this special guided Florence Tour, skip-the-line tickets are included as well as a professional guide. The only line you need to stand in at the Accademia will be a very short security line. Compared to the regular entrance line, you'll breeze right on inside.

Walking Tour of Historic Florence

Your tour continues with a walking tour that'll show you some of the many other highlights of Florence. The center of the Renaissance, Florence was home to the influential Medici family. The patrons of art, buildings and infrastructure the Renaissance likely could not have occurred without their influence.  On this walk through the city you will visit many sites commissioned by the Medici, including their palace and city hall, Palazzo Vecchio. Located in front of Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, the impressive main square of the city, you will find one Florence's slightly less famous fake Davids.

Hidden Gems of Florence

Your walking tour isn't only about world-famous galleries and landmarks. Your guide will also show you some of the city's lesser-known gems, including the beautiful Orsanmichele Church, the ancient leather market, and the popular Bronze Boar fountain. You'll even stroll past one of our favorite local gelato shops where you can buy yourself a refreshing treat. Get to know more of Florence with the insights of your local guide!

Ponte Vecchio

As the tour continues through the historic center you will reach the River Arno. Together we will cross the river over the incredible Ponte Vecchio, or "Old Bridge" in English. Last renovated in 1345, the bridge was originally home to butchers, fishmongers, and other food vendors but Ferdinand I proclaimed in 1593 that only jewelers were allowed here to prevent the smell. Jewelers still operate here centuries later, and you'll feel as if you've stepped back in time as you stroll around this historic part of Florence.

This tour was everything we wanted in Florence and more! We got a stunning view of the city, saw David, and had an amazing tour of the city with our guide, Francesca! Not having to wait in line and having a guide with such interesting information was well worth it. After this tour, we finished the day off with the flood tour and we couldn't have been happier!
