Say Hello to the Statue of David
The Galleria dell'Accademia is home to one of the most famous works of art in the world: the David statue. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, or simply Michelangelo for short, was the only artist in Florence who could work with this block of marble. The result? He turned it into a world-famous masterpiece! Don't be fooled, while there are three David statues in various locations around Florence, only this one is the real deal.
You will find the original statue of David inside the Accademia Gallery. If you visit on your own, long lines are inevitable. However, on this special guided Florence Tour, skip the line tickets are included as well as a professional guide. The only line you need to stand in at the Accademia will be a short security line. Compared to the regular entrance line, you breeze right on inside.
The Duomo of Florence
The iconic Duomo is Florence's most recognized landmark. Contrary to popular belief, the word "duomo" does not refer to the dome of the church, but instead identifies the principal church or cathedral of a town or city. The Florence Cathedral, or "Duomo", is topped by a magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. Taking over 140 years to complete, the inspiration for the Duomo was taken from the Pantheon in Rome.
Your guide will show you around Piazza del Duomo, explaining the detailed history behind the Cathedral, Baptistery and Bell Tower. From there, you will have the opportunity to solo climb the big red dome, overlooking the beautiful city below you. The climb consists of 463 steps, so make sure you’re up for the challenge! If you'd prefer not to climb the dome, you can instead visit many of the other areas accessible with the special ticket included in this tour. These attractions include the Museum of Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Bell Tower and the Baptistry.
There is no better way to take in the sights and panoramic views of our Renaissance Florence. By the end of this experience, you’ll be an expert in Florentine art and architecture.

We booked this tour the night before when we realized that online tickets through the museum had sold out and booking a tour would be the only way to get in. Did we luck out! Our tour was with Angela who was just fantastic. She was so passionate and knowledgeable about art and her hometown of Florence! We learned so much more than if we had done a walking tour on our own. I got goosebumps seeing the David sculpture in person and listening to Angela recount all the details of the making of this masterpiece. The walking tour of the city afterwords was just as fascinating. There was plenty of time for pictures and asking questions. Angela also recommended places for lunch and gelato as well. A favorite day of our trip for sure. We enjoyed the tour so much we also booked the Vatican tour for a few days later in Rome. Highly recommend the Roman Guy tours. Very well done, very organized, amazing guides and worth every penny.
We used The Roman Guy multiple times during our honeymoon in Italy and were not disappointed. When planning, we failed to get tickets to the Academia to see the David sculpture in advance, and I was so bummed thinking we wouldn't be able to go. We booked these tickets the night before the tour, which allowed us to skip the line, and learn so much about the history and details of the sculpture. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever seen, and hearing our tour guide describe all of the detail helped us learn and appreciate it so much more than if we had just gone on our own. The walking tour that followed was the perfect amount of time and helped us get our bearings in the city. Like with all of The Roman Guy tours, the groups are small enough that it really feels personal. Definitely recommend.
