Known as the most romantic city in the world, Venice never ceases to dazzle newcomers and seasoned veterans alike. With its winding backstreets and network of famous canals, The Roman Guy suggests that the only way to really explore this city is both by foot and on the water with this Venice Discovery Private Tour.
This private 3 hour tour includes a skip the lines visit of St Mark's Basilica. After you'll explore St. Mark's Square and the surrounding side streets. The crown of the tour will be a ride by boat along the Grand Canal, the way Venice was meant to be seen! You'll explore the side canals and pass by the last gondola maker in Venice!
Skip the line VIP access is included for St. Mark's Basilica with our local guide from April-October. If you are traveling to Venice between November-March, skip-the-line is not included as the Basilica does not offer this privilege to any operators during these slower months. As it is winter, the crowds are generally fewer and lines are a lot smaller and faster.
The "Basilica di San Marco" is also referred to as the church of gold. You'll notice that immediately upon walking in. After a brief explanation, our guide will bring you to a restricted area above the main church. Here you'll see Venice's famous four bronze horses. They are considered to be the oldest in the world dating back to the 4th century B.C. From here you'll be taken up to the rarely visited rooftop terrace to take in one of the most incredible views Italy has to offer.
St. Mark's Square is one of the most sought-after destinations in all of Italy. Your guide will explain the architecture and folklore surrounding this massive and iconic piazza.
After the walking portion of this tour we'll take you to see Venice as it should be seen, on the water! As you step onto the boat, you will be whisked away into the timeless world that is Venice. You'll cruise through the side canals on a private boat reserved especially for our group. This is a great chance to see a large amount of Venice in a very stylish way.
As you work your way down the side canals, you will get a better understanding of how Venetians live their everyday life and since they are on little islands, how important boats actually are to them. You will then turn onto the Grand Canal where the beauty becomes jaw-dropping. This extremely wide canal is almost a museum within itself. Your neck will be turning left and right constantly as you see one beautiful palace after another. Another highlight is passing by one of the last Gondola Workshops in Venice, where these iconic boats are still made by hand!
After getting off the boat, you will then venture into more exploration of the city center. You will learn more about the local life of Venetians, as your expert guide brings you through the labyrinth streets and tells you many stories about the rich history of this area.
Our local expert guide will accompany you on your discovery of this medieval city, stopping off to admire the major sites and introducing you to some Venetian treasures that most tourists never get to see. If you haven't fallen in love with Venice after this tour, we will eat a gondolier's hat!
