How big is your bathtub at home? Big enough to swim in? Emperors were known for being extravagant and Nero certainly was that! As you'll see when peering into his monstrous bathtub.
This gallery was originally an open "loggia" but was walled and closed some 200 years ago. The statues and candelabras you will see inside during this Vatican tour date back as far as 3rd Century B.C.
Some of the masterpieces in this gallery were designed after the cartoons drawn by Raphael! Your guide will explain the stories portrayed, and show you a tapestry with a spectacular optical illusion!

This guided tour takes you on a journey through time and art, as our guide starts by leading you towards the most fascinating galleries within the Vatican Museums. The museums' artwork is spread over miles, but with our licensed Vatican guide you'll get to see and learn about all the highlights in approximately 3 hours.
The first leg of your tour will take you through the Pinecone Courtyard, which is a massive and beautiful open courtyard in the midst of the Vatican City. Then our guide will take you through the Pio Clementino gallery which contains many of the statues that inspired Michelangelo himself when painting the Sistine Chapel.
On the way to the Sistine Chapel you'll visit the Greek Cross Room that contains two massive sarcophogi said to contain Consistantine's mother Helen and sister Constantia. You'll move forward to the Candelabra Gallery which contains 100s of statues including ancient Roman mile markers! Yep, like on a highway.
Then you'll go through the Gallery of the Tapestries and Gallery of the Maps. These two galleries are amongst the most beautiful and notable in the Vatican Museums. Next it is on to the Raphael Rooms!
What does the word Renaissance mean? Raphael was one of Rome's greatest and most famous artists who encompassed all of the ideals of the Renaissance man. He designed and frescoed multiple rooms connected to the Vatican Museums. Not only will you be able to admire the beautiful works of art, but your guide will also fill you in on the behind-the-scenes stories of Raphael's life. Some may call Raphael a bit of a playboy. You'll see one of his most famous works of art The School of Athens in the signature room, among other masterpieces.
It’s almost impossible to imagine, but to see every item in the Vatican Museums would take 12 years! We know that you don’t have that much time, so we limit this Vatican Museum Tour to the most incredible sights that the Vatican museums have to offer. So come and enjoy a walk with us through history in one of the most fascinating, living museums on earth!
Since the Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, you are prohibited to speak inside. The Roman Guy will provide a hand-out/map of the chapel so you have a reference as your guide explains it to you beforehand. You can then use this map when you are inside the chapel. You'll have at least 20 minutes to admire Michelangelo's masterpieces and really get a feel for where you are.
Imagine dedicating almost 10 years of your life to one masterpiece? Imagine braving the elements and still trying to paint - Your hands are so cold in the winter that you can barely feel the paintbrush; in the summer you can barely breathe from the suffocating heat. Now you understand what Michelangelo, one of the most famous artists ever, endured during his struggle to make the most renowned art masterpiece the Western World has ever seen. Your expert guide will do their best to bring to life one of the most beautiful rooms you'll ever walk into.
At the end of your Sistine Chapel experience, you have the option to remain in the Chapel, return to the museums, or follow your guide through a special door towards St Peter's Basilica. If you choose to stay in the chapel you must return your headset to the guide. We recommend moving on with your guide as you'll be able to skip the security line to the St. Peter's Basilica and get a tour there.
If you are going to end a tour really well, do it at the largest Catholic church on Earth. That is exactly what the St. Peter's Basilica is. A massive and iconic structure created by Italy's and the World's greatest artists. Inside you'll find masterpieces such as Michelangelo's "La Pieta" and Gian Lorenzo Bernini's "La Baldacchino".
Once your tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's is over, you'll have the option to walk up to the dome, see instructions below, or exit to the Piazza San Pietro. We recommend both!
Want to climb St Peter's Dome? Before arriving in the Basilica, make sure you ask our guide where you can access St Peter's Dome. You can get an elevator part of the way, skipping over 300 steps, or climb the whole way to the top! Tickets cost between €5-€7, but trust us, the view is definitely worth the climb and small fee.
The Roman Guy gets VIP skip-the-line Vatican access, because we are a Vatican City accredited Tour Operator.
