Many of them come from Florence, one of the most renowned foodie cities in Italy. With a team of local foodie experts in Florence, The Roman Guy is ready to reveal these secret delicacies to you during our Local Florence Food Tour.
Our local foodie experts will guide you on a discovery of typical delicacies. You'll visit local vendors, taste the Florentine culture with plenty of food and drink tastings, as well as enjoying a lunch in the Sant'Ambrogio market. All this so that at the end of your Local Florence Food Tour, you can consider yourself a connoisseur of Florentine food!
Your local foodie guide will start off by introducing you to the history of Florentine cuisine, the eating customs of the locals, and the famous foodie districts you'll be visiting. While your guide sets the scene, you will kickstart your appetite with a local favorite, the "coccolo". This fried savory pastry is a very popular snack in Florence and at your first stop you'll get to try the best coccolo in town!
But wait, there's more! A Florentine appetizer is never complete without some local meats and cheeses. Nearby, your guide will take you to a deli to taste some local cuts, along with your first glass of real Tuscan "vino" (wine). As they say in Italy, your appetite comes with eating, so that's what you'll do!
As we said at the start, there are so many local delicacies that you wouldn’t have even imagined were Italian! One of these is "trippa"! If you don't know what it is, ask your guide. The Roman Guy is up for trying anything, especially when on vacation. If you're brave enough, step forward and taste this local delicacy. We promise you won't regret it!
If you're not eating a panino with cured meats, then there's only one other way! The "porchetta" way. Your guide will explain how porchetta is made as you tuck into some tender porchetta, nestled within some soft "foccacia" bread. This sandwich is almost a Florentine staple. Enjoy it while learning how the region is particularly famous for producing amazing melt-in-the-mouth meats!
You're in the region that makes some of the finest wines in the world - Tuscany! We will make sure that you get to try at least 3 glasses of Tuscany's red nectar of Gods! Make sure you remember where you've had your favorite glass, so that you can go back for more after your tour. "Too much wine" - said no-one, ever!
One of the reasons this is one of the best Florence food and wine tours around, is because we’ve also included a local market lunch!
In between some of your tasting stops, you'll get the chance to walk off some of the good food you've been trying, making room for a good hearty Florentine lunch. Along the way you'll see some of Florence's hidden gems, just before arriving at Sant'Ambrogio Market for lunch.
Now, it's pasta time! The Roman Guys couldn't decide which plate of pasta was our favorite, so you'll get all 3 different pastas at lunch! The trattoria you have lunch inside is run by 2 brothers who have been in the business for decades, so they know what they're doing when it comes to good local pasta dishes.
This may be a good time to mention that we advise you wear stretchy pants for this tour… being one of the Best food tours Florence, this seems like a fitting request!
At this point you may be rolling down the street - we guarantee a full belly! But, since no “nonna” (grandma) would never let you finish a meal without having the dessert, neither will we. Our tour guide was the lovely Mara, who was very interested in the city, the food, the history, but also about the people she guided. There were many Our tour guide was the lovely Mara, who was very interested in the city, the food, the history, but also about the people she guided. There were many stops, but the first is a shop that sells small dough balls that are fried, then filled with either a jam, chocolate or cream. I won't spoil all the fun, but the delivery method is such fun. Next, was a cheese selection with the option of wine, located close by. There is a steep staircase down to the table where the best history is explained, but there are also upstairs tables if preferred. There are another few stops between, but the most interesting for my group was the Sant'Ambrogio Market. This place is smaller that San Lorenzo, but there is a lot more enjoyable. The atmosphere is different and the stall cellars are very engaging. The food available is second to none. This tour is very enjoyable with not too much walking for people. After such a nice time here, I'm going to try the other tours when I visit Italy again...more
